Go on a
Mission
Trip

You don't need to have it all figured out. You need a passport, a decision, and a first step. This guide walks you through everything — from the application to the airplane to coming home changed.

01
// Before Anything Else
Get Your Passport
You cannot go to the nations without a passport. If you don't have one, this is your first assignment — apply now, before you need it. Processing takes 6–8 weeks standard. Do not wait until you have a trip booked.
// Standard Processing
6–8 weeks · $130 application + $35 execution fee. Apply at any passport acceptance facility — most post offices and courthouses qualify.
// Expedited Processing
2–3 weeks · Additional $60 expedite fee. Choose this if you have a trip in the next 3 months. Request overnight delivery for your documents.
// What You Need
Proof of U.S. citizenship (birth certificate), government-issued photo ID, 2" × 2" passport photo, completed DS-11 form, and application fees.
// Validity
Adults: valid 10 years. Minors under 16: valid 5 years. Renew when less than 6 months remain — most countries require it for entry.

// Once You Apply
Prepare Well
After you apply and get accepted, the preparation phase begins. This is not just logistics — it is spiritual. The trip starts long before you board the plane.
Fundraise with confidenceMost Crosspoint trips have a trip cost covered by individual fundraising. You write letters to friends, family, and your network. God provides — most people hit their goal. You are giving people an opportunity to participate in the mission.
Attend every team meetingYour team prep meetings cover cultural context, logistics, expectations, and spiritual preparation. Miss them and you show up unprepared. Being present for your team is the first act of service.
Get any required vaccinationsDepending on your destination, specific vaccines may be required or recommended. Check with your team leader and a travel health clinic 6–8 weeks before departure.
Prepare spiritually, not just logisticallyRead about where you're going. Pray for the people you'll meet. Ask God to remove your assumptions about what He is going to do. The most important preparation happens before you pack a bag.
Pack light and pack rightYour team will give you a specific packing list. Follow it. Over-packing is a burden on the team. Leave room in your bag — most teams bring supplies to leave behind.
04
// While You're There
Be Present on
the Field
Your job on the field is not to fix anything or impress anyone. It is to show up, be present, serve with humility, and pay attention to what God is doing. Here's how to do that well.
// Posture: Learn Before You Speak
You are a guest. The people you are serving have been here far longer than you. Come with questions, not answers. Observe before you assume. The best thing you can do in the first 24 hours is listen.
// Presence: Put the Phone Down
The most powerful thing you can give someone is undivided attention. Be where you are. Document sparingly. The relationships you build over a meal or a work project will outlast any post.
// Flexibility: Plans Will Change
Field schedules shift. Weather, logistics, and local circumstances change the plan. Flexible people are more useful on the field than prepared people who can't adapt. Hold your agenda loosely.
// Expectation: God Is Already There
You are joining something God is already doing — not starting something new. Go expecting to be changed as much as you hope to serve. The most common thing people say coming home: "I received more than I gave."
05
// The Trip Doesn't End When You Land
Come Home Well
The most wasted part of a mission trip is the re-entry. People come back changed and then slowly drift back to the life they left. The goal is not to return to normal — it is to let the trip change normal.
Give yourself space to processDon't overschedule your first week back. You will need time to decompress, journal, and sit with what you experienced. That space is not wasted — it is where integration happens.
Debrief with your teamAttend any post-trip meetings your team holds. Shared processing helps you name what happened and solidify commitments you made on the field.
Write it downJournal your most significant moments from the trip within the first 48 hours of returning. Memory fades fast. The clarity you have right now will not last — capture it while it is sharp.
Stay connected to what you sawFollow the organizations you served with. Pray specifically for the people you met by name. Give toward ongoing work. The partnership does not end when you get off the plane.
Tell people what you sawShare your story — at church, in your small group, with friends. Stories create vision. Your experience of the mission field can awaken that same hunger in someone else who goes next.
